Gurgaon Metro Palam Vihar-Dwarka Project Set For Finalization By HMRTC

The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is taking steps to finalize the alignment for the much-awaited Palam Vihar to Dwarka metro extension project. This initiative, which runs parallel to the ongoing Gurugram metro extension project, aims to significantly improve public transport connectivity between Gurugram and Delhi.

Green Light in 2022

The project received approval from the Haryana government in October 2022. Estimated to cost approximately Rs 1,687 crore, Haryana will contribute Rs 1,541 crore, with the remaining funds coming from the central government. This extension will not only connect Palam Vihar in Gurugram to Dwarka in Delhi but will also integrate with existing metro lines, offering a more convenient and efficient travel experience for commuters across the region.

Final Station Location Under Discussion

While discussions regarding the overall alignment are nearing completion, officials are still determining the exact location for the last station before the interchange at Dwarka Sector 21. Two potential sites are being considered: near the Bijwasan railway station or close to the interstate bus terminal in Dwarka. This decision will be based on passenger convenience and how well it connects with existing train and bus services.

Project Approval on Hold Until Finalisation

Once the station location is finalised, the project's alignment will be approved and submitted to the Union government for final authorisation. Senior officials are prioritising finalising the alignment, with discussions progressing at the highest levels of government.

Enhancing Connectivity Between Gurugram and Delhi

The extension will cover a distance of 8.4 kilometres, with five kilometres running through Gurugram and 3.4 kilometres extending into Delhi.

The new metro line will feature seven elevated stations at Chauma village, Sector 110-A, Sector 111, Dwarka Sector 28, IECC, and Dwarka Sector 21. It will also include an interchange at Palam Vihar, connecting the line with the main Gurugram Metro network, improving overall connectivity.

HMRTC officials anticipate that this extension will significantly improve commuter travel between Gurugram and Delhi, providing a seamless link between the two major urban areas.

This project is expected to have a positive impact on the real estate sector in Gurugram, particularly in areas with upcoming stations. Improved connectivity is likely to attract residents and businesses, leading to potential development opportunities.
